Family Game Night with Winning Moves Games:

** I received these products for review.  However, all thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Winning Moves Games: Connect 4 Twist & Turn, Scattergories Categories, & Upwords(THE GIVEAWAY IS WAY on DOWN)

Growing up, one of my all time favorite memories was of our family all sitting around the kitchen or dining room table and playing games like Skip-Bo, Trivial Pursuit, Rook, LIFE, Monopoly geez the list could go on and on.  It was at times competitive, sometimes there were tears (mainly from me if I didn't win) but most of the time it was a time filled with laughter, and most importantly togetherness.

That's why I chose Winning Moves Games as one of the gift ideas for the #sassyholidays #HolidayGiftGuide2015

Make Family Game Night a Priority

Ok, so maybe it's only my two teenager monsters that are living at my home, but it seems whenever it's something that I, personally, want to do they are DEAD SET against it.  However, the last few times that I had to "Pull" teeth to get the kids to play games with me, they didn't want it to end.  We haven't all had a chance yet to sit together as a family to play any of the games, but my husband and I and my daughter and I have given these games a test drive and I can tell you without a doubt, they are so much fun!

Scattergories Categories: A New Twist on an OLD Classic

Scattergories Categories; Winning Moves Games - SassyGalBeauty Play ON
My daughter and I had the chance one night to sit down and try out this twist on the Classic game, Scattergories.

To start off, Callie honestly wasn't too thrilled with being my guinea pig for playing this game, but she was a good sport and good child and went along with it.  Well, by the end we both were like, "ok, just one more" and six more rounds later were both hesitant to finally call it a night.

The Twist:

So, if you've ever played Scattergories, you are familiar with the concept of the game, kinda brainstorming with a theme.  I haven't played Scattergories in years, but from what I remember you had this funky dice that had letters and there were various categories and you would think of as many words starting with the "rolled letter" that fits the "Category".

Well, the Scattergories Categories is a lot similar to the original.  You do have "Categories", but instead of a dice, you have these category cards that have a word in which you will use to begin each word....  That sounds all kinds of crazy...  Let's show you in pictures...

Scattergories Categories: How to Play Scattergories Categories

How To Play Scattergories Categories

Ok...  So, in Scattergories Categories each player gets a Sheet to use for your "Brainstorming" sessions.  Each round, players will choose one "Category" cards.  The Category cards give the "theme" for that round...

Example:  Walt's Dream is the base word that will be used for this "round".  The "Category" is "anything to do with Disney".

A Short Run-Through Step by Step

First: Fill in the boxes on your "Playing Pad", writing "Walt's Dream"  Vertically (with NO spaces).

Example: Walt's Dream: A Scattergories Category Game Card

You will THEN use the letters in "Walt's Dream"  as the first letter for each word using the theme "Anything Disney"

In this image to the left, you can see the words that I came up with!

W- Walt Disney
A: Aladdin
L: Lion King
T: Tarzan
S: Space Mountain
D: Disney World
R: -
E: Epcot
A: -
M:-

How to Win:

So, each round, all players will go through and say what they had for each letter.  If there are two players' with the same answer for any "one" letter then each player loses that point.  (If there are "two" or more of the same letter in the "Category Word" and two players answer the same thing but at in different spots, "example: Walt's Dream has two A's, if two players answered Aladdin, but player 1 answered using the first A (in between W & L) and Player 2 used the second A, then both players would get to keep those points.

My Thoughts on Scattergories Categories:

Family Game Night with Scattergories Categories
We absolutely LOVE this game.  This would make a great party game, since there's no board required, players could easily be sitting spread across the room.  I'm sure that you could come up with some fun ways to mix it up and come up with your own categories and starter words!

Callie also loved to play this too.  It's been such a hectic time for us, it's been hard to pin everyone down to get some good family game time, but it's going to be a priority for this Christmas season!

Connect 4: Twist & Turn

Connect 4 Twist & Turn

Although I love, LOVE Scattergories Categories, I'm thinking that my favorite of these was the new Connect 4 Twist & Turn.  It really takes classic Connect 4 to a whole new level.  Just when you THINK you've won, someone twists the dang tower and throws your game all off.  It makes you think of your move, plus think about the next possible ten moves depending on which way the tower may twist

The fundamentals are pretty much the same as Classic Connect 4, Connect 4 Twist & Turn is a "tower" that has rings.  These rings can be twisted either direction and can cause MAJOR chaos in your gameplay.

It really requires you to put your thinking cap on.  I can't tell you the number of times I've won because my dauther or husband literally won for me, by twisting at the wrong time and in the wrong place.  Sometimes, depending on where the chips are, you twist and chips are gonna move around into other columns.  It is strangely a very simple concept, but manages to raise the difficulty up about ten notches.

So, I'll be really honest, we've not yet had a chance to sit down and play this yet.  But, I so cannot wait.  I actually have never played Upwords before, but I thought it would be a fun twist on a Scrabble- like game!

Family Fun with Rollick:

SassyHolidays: The Game Chef's Rollick & Long Story Short
Fabulous Gift Ideas!  Rollick & Long Story Short will liven up ANY party!

Not long ago I did a review on the party game: Rollick!  However, when I had done that review, I hadn't actually had the opportunity to play the game as originally intended.
Michelle (my sister) and her son Matthew.....  acting out something..???
THE CORRECT way to play Rollick:

Break into TWO teams...

Each round you have ONE guesser.  The rest of the team acts out the clues for the guesser.  Someone from the other team holds the cards up for the "team" to see and act out...  You can have ONE pass per round.

Charades with a TWIST:

Rollick is essentially a game of charades except that you have a TEAM of actors versus just one actor.  Having played this both with just one actor and then with a team of actors, I can tell you it is definitely more fun with a team!  Just recently during Thanksgiving we broke out Rollick and it helped to ease some of tension that family holiday's can bring on!  It had us all DYING with laughter!!

The Game Chef: Rollick GIVEAWAY and Review

The Game Chef: Rollick
The Game Chef:  Rollick\
Part of the SassyHolidays Gift Ideas:  Teens

Family Game Night: Continued....

The Game Chef:  Rollick

What it is:

Rollick on Amazon
A Party Game:  6-12 players
Ages:  10 and up!

Object of the Game:

With 6 or More players, you break into two teams....  Each round, you have one guesser for the team and the Rest of the team are the actors....  Someone from the opposing side holds the cards and the "Actors" can choose to pass...

Cody playing...
Ok, so I'm going to be honest, we didn't play it like that.  We were having to make do because we had less....  So, we broke into two teams...  My son and I and then Callie and her BFF....  Each round we would essentially take turns acting and being guesser (unless my son wasn't paying attention and I would sneak and be the actor next round too, we discovered he's not so hot at the acting part...)

However you decide to play it, I PROMISE you will have fun!

Game On:

CallieOh MY GOSH!  So, I know the folks at The Game Chef probably thought that I'd never get around to reviewing this game.  Truth of the matter is, it's suggested that you have 6 players minimum to play and I could never round up 6 people at one time to play this game.

My kids best friends live next door, however either my son and his friend would be off playing or my daughter and her friend would be off.  It seemed I was never going to wrangle them down long enough to play this game.

Cody with a clue
We STILL didn't actually have enough players.  We had five folks.  Myself, Cody (my son), Callie (my daughter), and Natalie Callie's best friend and also our neighbor..  So, I had cooked up a mean pot of chili and some dip and decided what a better way to spend a nice cold evening then inside playing a game??

Let me tell you, I cannot convey the FUN that we had while playing this game!  It was SUCH a HUGE blast!!

Basically, it's a game of charades....  You have cards in which you draw and you act out and try to make your team guess...  You have two sides, the Blue Side (The easy side) or the Red side (The not so easy side)...  Seeings as we didn't really probably play by the rules... and it was our first go, we chose to play the Blue Side and while there were some easy ones for sure, they definitely weren't all easy!!

Callie giving clues.I haven't laughed and actually enjoyed my kids so much in such a long time.  We ALL had a blast.  We were thinking WHY haven't we played this before?  My dad, ended up being an honorary player for both teams and seemed to be the best guesser out of us all!

Laughter...

We laughed so hard, our sides were hurting.  I mean, these kids were getting pretty fierce.  My son even managed to pay attention...  He left his phone for like the almost ENTIRE time...  Until he realized it was his turn to act out or guess...  He was my partner...

We've decided next time we'll draw straws to pick teams....  Some are better actors than others...  But, it was all in good fun...
Callie keeping score..
Callie Keeps Score....

UnPlugged...

In a world where we are constantly plugged in, it's so nice to have a truly fun game night where all we do is just spend time with each other and laugh and cut up.  I know, even for myself, I get stuck behind this computer and I don't want to move.  I get so caught up in what I'm doing that I forget that I need to be living in the present and enjoying these last few years I have left with my kids.

Gift Idea:

What a fun gift idea for really WHOMEVER!  Teens, adults alike will truly enjoy playing this game!  It's definitely a game that makes you want to be in the same room with one another, not off in your own corners, doing your own thing.  If your looking for a way to bring your family BACK TOGETHER, look no further than Rollick!

Nancy Drew Video Game: Giveaway + Review

A SassyHolidays Gift Idea:  Teens & Kids

Nancy Drew:  Labyrinth of Lies

If you are over the age of 25, chances are you grew up reading the books of Nancy Drew and the brother books, The Hardy Boys...   Her Interactive games has now brought our favorite Girl detective to the Small Screen, on your PC....

Now your favorite childhood character is an interactive game that you and your own kids can bring to life and live the mysteries....

My Thoughts...

Ok, so this is a bit hard for me to review..... I haven't actually played this game, it was a game I got so that I could get my thirteen year old daughter OFF of the Sims and playing a more age appropriate game.

She has enjoyed playing it and I sure am glad.  While it's almost impossible to get our kids off their computers, tablets, or cell phones, we can at least provide them with educational games that will actually inspire them to use their brains...  Think....  Interactive mystery games are a great way to make this happen!!

Labyrinth of Lies is Her Interactive's latest Nancy Drew Release!  Her Interactive games can be purchased with a disk or downloaded digitally straight from the Her Interactive site, so you can have it delivered straight to your PC without leaving your home!  That makes this a super convenient purchase!

Gift Idea:

I chose this for the Gift Guide, because kids and teens alike enjoy their electronics and they enjoy their games.  This is a gift kids and teens and even adults of all ages can enjoy!

Bring Back Family Game Night with WINNING MOVES Giveaway

Winning-Moves
\

Winning-Moves

Winning Moves is a site that sells all types of board games and card games.  They sell some of your favorites as well as some new games never before played!!

Family Time

So, in today's world with technology all around us, sometimes it's easy to remember to stop and spend time together as a family.  Some of my very favorite memories are those from when we would all gather round the table and play "Skip-Bo", Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, Life, all of those fun games!

I have to admit, that sometimes I don't take time to stop and spend time with my family because I get so busy with what I'm doing I forget to just STOP and really spend quality time with them.  So, I was really thrilled with this opportunity, it provided a great way for us to sit and really spend time together and just have fun!!

The Games:

Winning Moves: Bunco

Bunco:

A Social Dice Game.

I haven't actually had the opportunity to play this one yet!  But, I really cannot wait!  I LOVE dice games.  One of our favorite games growing up was Yahtzee and this game kinda reminds me of Yahtzee.  The rules are really easy to learn and it's a game that you can play with either 2 people or a 12!  So, it's a great party game!!

PayDay

Winning Moves: Pay DayOk, this was one of the games that I was MOST excited to get!  I LOVE this game!  It's really fun way to teach kids the value of money and how to borrow and pay back!  If you've never played it, and you have children between the ages of 7-15, this is a great game to learn the value of a dollar!!!  Really easy game play too!!
Payday Game Pieces
Payday has a "Loan Record" for when you borrow money!

PayDay Game Board!

SplashCards: (A GREAT Stocking Stuffer!)

Winning Moves Splash CardsThese are regular playing cards, but with a twist.  They are WATER approved!  So, if you have a pool or a hot tub you can take the games to the water!  They also have other types for kids to play in the bath tub!  Really great party idea if you have a body of water you "party" near or IN!!!
Winning Moves WaterProof Playing Cards Royal

Monopoly Mega:  A Bigger, Better Game...

Monopoly Mega

So, last but DEFINITELY not least is Monopoly Mega.  You know how when you play Monopoly how you had to sit with your legs under you and reach across to reach the board because it was so much smaller than the table??  Not a problem anymore...  Of course, you still might have to stretch to reach the other side but the board just got a whole lot bigger.

This is like Monopoly on STEROIDS...  Every "Color" has gained a new spot.  So, there's no longer just TWO blue, there are now THREE!  It really besides making the board bigger, makes the game a little more fun!

There's even a new DICE!  You have three dice you roll as opposed to two.  There's a "Bus Pass" which if you have it can be used to "Get out of Jail FREE" or it can allow you to move to any spot on the same side of the board you are currently on!

We had a BLAST playing this game!  We've already played it a few times!  It's definitely become a "new" favorite in my house!

Board games make an excellent gift idea really for ANYONE!  Adults love them because that means "Family Time" and kids love them because they are fun!  Grab some board games from the folks at Winning Moves and spend some time with your kids today!!
